Geddes Park Barn Demolition

The Municipality of Kincardine will be removing the barn located at Geddes Park due to significant structural deficiencies identified through an engineering assessment.

Demolition is anticipated to take place during the week of August 31, 2026. The barn will be dismantled and removed from the site, after which the area will be restored through naturalization and planting.

For the safety of residents, park users and the public, please avoid the barn and surrounding work area while demolition is underway.

The Geddes Park barn is part of the history of the Geddes Park property and its connection to the Geddes family. A heritage plaque documenting the history of the barn is anticipated to be installed in spring 2027.

An engineering assessment completed by BM Ross determined that the barn is structurally deficient and recommended that it be removed for the safety of users and the public.

The assessment identified cracking in the foundation walls. Due to the severity of the deficiencies and the associated costs, the engineer did not recommend attempts to remediate the structure.

Based on this assessment, demolition is the safest and most appropriate option for the site.

Once the barn has been removed, the area will be restored and naturalized with new plantings and grasses.

The Municipality is also working with Heritage Kincardine to document the history of the barn. A heritage plaque is anticipated for spring 2027, providing an opportunity to recognize and share the site's history with future generations.

Additional information about the naturalization work and heritage plaque will be shared as plans are finalized.
