Future of the Former W.E. Thompson School Property

Bruce Power and the Municipality of Kincardine are pleased to announce that they've reached an agreement that will see the W.E. Thompson school continue to be used as a training centre by Bruce Power through 2032. This decision was made during the most recent lease arrangement discussions and following a thorough review of the building’s condition, and future needs.

The property, located in downtown Kincardine, has served various roles since its closure as an educational facility. Both Bruce Power and the Municipality explored potential uses, including supportive housing and community programming. However, after careful consideration, the partners agreed that the facility would require substantial upgrades in the coming years, and council has decided to look at future possibilities for the site.

There are no immediate changes planned for the site. The current lease runs until the end of 2032, giving us a multi-year runway to shape a community-driven vision for this prime downtown location. Bruce Power will continue to work closely with the Municipality to ensure a smooth and well-planned transition.

Residents will be kept informed as plans progress.
