Lagoon Sludge Removal Project Update – Aeration System Trial - September 22, 2026

There is no significant change to report from the lagoon aeration system at this time. The system continues to operate with both blowers online, but dissolved oxygen (DO) levels remain around 0.30 mg/L, below the target of 1.5–2.0 mg/L or greater.

Odour conditions at the site remain good, with no significant odour concerns reported. Cooler fall temperatures have also lowered water temperatures by approximately three degrees, which creates more favourable conditions for increasing dissolved oxygen levels.

Today marks 14 days since the aeration system began operating. While staff had hoped to see greater improvement in DO levels by this stage, the results so far have not shown the expected change.

The Municipality has engaged the aeration system supplier to discuss the results and better understand why DO levels have remained low. Staff are also continuing to collect and review laboratory data. Additional results are expected to be available for Friday's update and will provide further information about treatment performance.

The Municipality will continue working with the supplier and reviewing the available data to determine next steps. Further information on the path forward will be shared as it becomes available.

The aeration system trial is expected to run for approximately 14 to 21 days. We are at day 14.
