Residents Asked to Conserve Water During Raw Water Intake Line Maintenance

The Municipality of Kincardine is asking residents to help conserve water during scheduled maintenance on the Raw Water Intake Line from Monday, July 27 to Saturday, August 1.

Residents are encouraged to reduce water use daily between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. while crews complete work on the Municipality's water system.

The project involves replacing the chlorination line that runs from the Water Treatment Plant to the beginning of the raw water intake line approximately 750 metres into Lake Huron. This line disperses chlorine while the plant is operating to prevent zebra mussel growth around and within the intake line. Keeping the intake line clear helps ensure the Municipality can maintain the water flow needed to provide reliable drinking water.

During the project, crews and divers will be working at the intake. Conserving water will reduce demand on the system, allowing the Water Treatment Plant to remain offline for longer periods while work is completed safely and efficiently.

Residents can help by:

• Limiting outdoor watering.
• Postponing laundry and dishwasher use until the evening.
• Taking shorter showers.
• Turning off taps when not in use.
• Delaying other non-essential water use until after 5 p.m.
