Media Release - September 10, 2026 - Municipality Moving Forward with Next Steps to Plan for Future of Bluewater Trailer Park Lands
Media Release - September 10, 2026
KINCARDINE, ON – At its September 9 Council meeting, the Municipality of Kincardine discussed next steps to plan for the future of the Bluewater Trailer Park lands, including a community engagement process to help shape the property’s future as a public space.
In 2024, Council determined that the current use of the lands as a seasonal trailer park did not align with the property’s original dedication for use as a public park, garden, or walkway.
Following legal advice, Council made the decision to terminate the existing lease to honour the original dedication of the lands. Recognizing the impact on seasonal tenants, Council approved a three-year transition period, extending the lease until October 31, 2027, to provide tenants with additional time to make alternative arrangements.
As the end of the lease approaches, the Municipality is sharing information so seasonal tenants and the broader community understand the decision, the reasons behind it, the transition timeline and the next phase of work: planning what the property could become in the future.
Retaining a Landscape Architect to undertake community consultation and park design will be considered through the Mayor’s 2027 budget.
The Landscape Architect would work with the Municipality and the community to develop a plan for the property that reflects its intended use as a public park, garden, or walkway.
Community to Help Shape the Future of the Lands
Council emphasized that community engagement should be an important part of the process. Residents will have opportunities to share their ideas, priorities and aspirations for the property and help shape a long-term vision for this waterfront public space while respecting the original dedication of the property.
If approved, planning and community engagement will take place in 2027, so the Municipality is prepared for the future use of the lands.
