Community Conversation to Explore Affordable Housing Solutions in the Municipality of Kincardine
KINCARDINE, ON – How do we create 160 affordable homes in our community and move the conversation from "not in my backyard" (NIMBY) to "yes in my backyard" (YIMBY)?
The Municipality of Kincardine is inviting residents to join an interactive community conversation focused on affordable housing, increasing housing supply, and building a community that remains welcoming, vibrant, and attainable for everyone.
Tuesday, July 7, 2026
6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Davidson Centre – Miller Room
Participants will hear from housing experts, community leaders, and members of Council while exploring practical solutions to address local housing challenges and opportunities.
Featured speakers include:
- Jennifer van Gennip, Director of Communications and Advocacy – Redwood Park Communities
- Ryan Deska, Strategic Initiatives Consultant on Housing – Community Foundation Grey Bruce
- Joel MacCallum, Executive Director – Ainslie Wood Housing Co-operative
- Members of Kincardine's Ad Hoc Council Committee on Housing
The event supports the development of the Municipality's Housing Action Plan 2.0. Through its work, the Ad Hoc Council Committee on Housing identified a significant gap between the types of housing currently available and the needs of residents. While much of the Municipality’s housing stock consists of single-detached homes, demand continues to grow for smaller and more affordable housing options, particularly for seniors, single-parent families, and individuals living alone.
In response, the Committee established a goal of creating 160 below-market housing units with monthly housing costs ranging from $1,088 to $1,740. Housing Action Plan 2.0 focuses on advancing this goal through partnerships, land opportunities, policy improvements, sustainable funding approaches, organizational capacity, and community support.
The discussion will be held in a fishbowl format—an interactive conversation designed to encourage participation and open dialogue between residents, community leaders, and
Council members. Participants will have the opportunity to share perspectives, ask questions, and contribute ideas that can help shape the future of housing in the Municipality.
Creating 160 affordable homes will take more than policy and planning—it will take community conversation, understanding, and support.
