Municipality of Kincardine Council appoints Jason Munro as Councillor At-Large

KINCARDINE, ON – At their June 3, 2026 Special Meeting, the Municipality of Kincardine Council appointed Jason Munro to the vacant position of Councillor At-Large.

The vacancy arose following the resignation of former Deputy Mayor Andrea Clarke on April 13, 2026. On April 22, 2026, Council declared the Deputy Mayor seat vacant and appointed Councillor Mike Hinchberger as Deputy Mayor in accordance with the Municipal Act and Municipal Elections Act. Following that appointment, Council declared the office of Councillor At-Large vacant.

As the vacancy occurred after March 31 in the year of a regular municipal election, Council was required under the Municipal Elections Act to fill the vacancy through appointment.

In accordance with the Municipality’s Council Vacancy Policy, Council directed staff to invite applications from a defined group of eligible individuals, including unsuccessful candidates from the 2022 municipal election, members of Council from the previous two terms of Council, and unsuccessful candidates from the 2024 Ward 1 vacancy appointment process.

Applications were accepted between April 29 and May 15, 2026. Eligible applicants were required to submit the prescribed forms and an expression of interest outlining their background, qualifications, and interest in serving on Council.

The Special Meeting included an opportunity for applicants to address Council and speak to their interest in the position prior to Council’s deliberations and vote.

“I want to sincerely thank all of the applicants who stepped forward and expressed a willingness to serve their community,” said Mayor Kenneth Craig. “Putting your name forward for public office takes courage and commitment, and Council appreciates the time and effort each person invested in this process. We congratulate Jason Munro on his appointment and look forward to their contributions as a member of Council.”

Following Council’s vote, Jason Munro took the Oath of Office and was formally appointed to the position of Councillor At-Large through the passing of a by-law. The term of office will continue until the end of the current Council term on November 14, 2026.

Council and staff thank all applicants who expressed interest in serving the community through this appointment process.
