Municipality of Kincardine Invites Community Input on Design of MacPherson Park Inclusive Playground

KINCARDINE, ON - The Municipality of Kincardine is beginning community engagement for the future redevelopment of MacPherson Park, which is planned to become a fully accessible, inclusive, destination-style playground serving families of all abilities.

With support from Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities and Municipal funding, MacPherson Park is scheduled to be rebuilt in 2026. The project aims to create a high-quality, barrier-free play space on Kincardine’s waterfront that reflects community priorities, modern accessibility standards, and long-term durability.

Residents are invited to attend a public community engagement session on Monday, January 12, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Davidson Centre (Bruce Telecom Room).

The drop-in session will feature interactive feedback opportunities using dotmocracy and discussion boards, along with concept mock-up renderings that will be used as visual tools to help participants share their preferences. These images are not final designs, but examples intended to support conversation about play styles and types of features that make a great park.

The session is family-friendly, and residents are encouraged to bring children, especially those who currently use MacPherson Park or benefit from accessible play features.

“This is an opportunity for the community to help shape the vision for a flagship recreation space,” said Luke Bedard, Director of Community Services. “The feedback we gather will guide playground designers as they develop concept options for future review, including consultation with accessibility partners and schools.”

During the session, participants will be invited to provide input on high-level concepts, such as preferences for:

  • A longer, fully ramped play structure
  • A taller structure with elevated lake views
  • A smaller structure with a wider variety of play features, such as climbers and swings

This first round of engagement focuses on overall direction rather than final playground details. Additional information and future engagement opportunities will be shared as the project progresses.
