Flag Lowered to Honour the National Day of Mourning
KINCARDINE, ON – On April 28th, 2025, we recognize the National Day of Mourning for Persons Killed or Injured in the Workplace, a day officially recognized nationwide each year.
Marking the somber occasion, we are lowering all flags on municipal flagstaffs throughout the community on the morning of Monday, April 28th, 2025, until Tuesday morning, April 29th, 2025. This is to honour those who have suffered work-related disability, disease, and death.
Chosen in 1984 by the Canadian Labour Congress, this day coincides with the government approval of the Ontario Worker’s Compensation Act in 1914. It became part of national legislation on February 1st, 1991.
This day is also known globally as Workers’ Memorial Day, with around 100 countries commemorating the occasion around the world.
Every worker has the right to return home at the end of every workday. Take time today to reflect on the safety of your own workplace practices. By working together, we can prevent worker injuries and deaths before they occur.
