Highlights from the meeting include:

Bruce Power Water Supply and KWTP Intake Replacement Report

The Municipality is working towards connecting Bruce Power to the Municipal water system. The existing intake structure supplying water from the lake has insufficient capacity to meet the needs of future growth and Bruce Power as a customer. Council supported an addendum to the 2024 Environmental Assessment for the Expansion of the Kincardine Water Supply System and Treatment Plant and directed staff to negotiate a draft amendment to the existing Agreement with Bruce Power to incorporate a cost sharing proposal.

SMART Agreement Options for Enhanced Transit Report

Through the 2025 budget process, Council approved enhancement of SMART services within the Municipality of Kincardine through the direct purchase of a new vehicle and services provided by SMART. SMART has presented two options for a pilot project that would offer evening and Sunday rides to Kincardine to eligible citizens. The two options are: lease of a vehicle; or purchase of the vehicle. Council selected to lease a vehicle and direct staff to bring back a by-law to enact the agreement.

Current H2 Hydrogen Peaker Plant Report

Current H2 is proposing to construct and operate one of North America’s first hydrogen peaker plants at the Bruce Energy Centre, in Kincardine’s primary industrial park. The facility would utilize surplus electricity during off-peak hours to produce hydrogen, which is stored and later used in hydrogen turbines that generate electricity back to the grid during high peak hours. Council endorsed the Electricity System Operation resolution for the Current H2 200MW Hydrogen Peaker Plant and directed the Mayor and Clerk to execute the Letter of Intent which outlines the foundational elements of a future Community Benefit Agreement should the IESO application be approved.
