Council Highlights - June 11th, 2025

The Municipality of Kincardine Council Meeting was held in Council Chambers at 1475 Concession 5, RR #5 Kincardine at 5:00 p.m.

Highlights from the meeting include:

2024 Financial Statements Report

Council approved the 2024 Consolidated Financial Statements. The Municipal Act requires that every municipality prepare annual audited financial statements. Kincardine’s audit was completed by KPMG LLP. Finance staff ensured all deliverables and timelines were achieved as planned. The financial statements will be posted on the municipal website and will be made available to the public by hardcopy upon request.

Bruce Telecom Legacy Fund Annual Investment Report

Council adopted the Bruce Telecom Legacy Fund Investment Policy using the net proceeds from the sale of Bruce Telecom. The Policy outlines the long-term strategy for the funds and provides direction for the use of the investment earnings. The Legacy Fund is an endowment style investment strategy designed to preserve the initial capital investment while providing a stable income return. Council received a report from ONE Investments, providing an update on the investment, as of March 31, 2025.

Strong Mayor Budget Process Report

On May 1st, 2025, the Province granted Strong Mayor Powers under the Municipal Act, 2001 to Kincardine’s Head of Council. These powers change how the budget is tabled and approved. Historically the budget was completed by staff, pursuant to Budget Policy FIN.02. As a result of the new Legislation, proposing and adopting a budget has been assigned to the Mayor. The next Municipality of Kincardine Council Meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25th, 2025. This meeting will be held in Council Chambers at the Municipal Administration Centre, 1475 Concession 5, RR #5 Kincardine.
