The Outside Maintainer will be responsible for operating machinery, tools, and equipment to maintain and repair roadways, structures, sidewalks, infrastructure, green space, and cemeteries within the Municipality of Kincardine.
Responsibilities:
- Complete summer road and sidewalk maintenance including street sweeping, grading of road surfaces for paving, installation of culverts, cold patch potholes, install and inspect guardrails, install sod, and cut grass, etc.
- Operate equipment in winter snow conditions to clear road and sidewalk surfaces; spread sand and salt as required
- Repair and replace road signage and other traffic control devices
- Set up construction work zones for traffic control
- Remove trees, tree stumps, and operate a chipper to remove trees and brush
- Operate a Vactor Truck to clean debris from infrastructure and to excavate holes
- Maintain the landscaping and operation of municipal cemeteries
- Install and remove Christmas decorations
- Complete general outdoor maintenance of public areas as required - i.e. pick-up garbage, paint surfaces, trim grass, minor carpentry work
- Respond to questions and concerns from the public, giving out information and resolving problems
- Clean up spills of a variety of materials, including hazardous materials
- Perform daily safety and maintenance checks, complete minor repairs and maintains logs
- Ensure the health and safety of workers and members of the public around work areas
- Comply with Municipality of Kincardine policies and procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned by management
Education & Experience Requirements:
- Post- secondary education and/or industry related experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience operating machinery and equipment - i.e. snow plows, dump trucks, front-end loaders or graders
- Possess a valid DZ license and a clean driving record
Required Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:
- Possess knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment common to outdoor municipal operations
- Knowledge of road and sidewalk repair and maintenance would be considered an asset
- Ability to work safely in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Ability to take initiative
- Excellent customer service skills with ability to deal tactfully and politely with the public
- Ability to work independently and as an effective member of a team
- Must be physically capable of performing manual labour
- A demonstrated work history that highlights teamwork and a positive attitude
