Fall Yard Waste Depots

As of Friday, November 10th, 2023, our Fall Yard Waste Depots are closed for the season.

Please, do not leave any yard waste (or other garbage) at these sites once closed, as this means staff hours and machinery costs to clean it up. These additional costs mean there's less budget for opening these sites in the future, if at all.

Compost can be taken year-round to the Armow Waste Management Centre when the temporary compost/yard waste depot sites are not open.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

 Film Plastics Recycling Program

The Municipality of Kincardine is pleased to announce that a Film Plastics Recycling Program has been implemented in Kincardine.  There will be 2 (Yellow) Film Plastics collection bins at each of the 2 drop off locations which will be emptied regularly by Grey Bruce Trash Taxi.

Film Plastics Recycling Locations:

1. Kincardine Waste Management Centre: 437 Sideroad 15, Armow - during regular operating hours

2. East Parking Lot-Kincardine Soccer Fields: 440 Bruce Avenue, Kincardine - 24 hours

Please familiarize yourself with which film plastics are acceptable (and not acceptable) for collection in these film plastics collection bins.  We endeavour to keep these collection bins free of contamination in order to keep this environmentally friendly program running permanently.

EPS (Styrofoam) Recycling Service Pilot Project

On December 1, 2020, the Municipality of Kincardine partnered with Second Wind Recycling, for the Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) Recycling Service Project. Second Wind Recycling provides the Municipality with a densifying and removal service of all post-consumer EPS packaging delivered to the recycling depot, and ensures it is recycled by a registered recycler.

Commonly referred to as Styrofoam, EPS is largely used in packaging and food service products. The petroleum based material is composed of 95% air and is not biodegradable. Due to its fragility and low weight, it is a common pollutant in the natural environment. EPS has become even more prevalent with the growth of e-commerce and bulk shipping.

From Dec 1, 2020 - December 31, 2021, the project diverted 6.9 transport truck (full 53') loads of Styrofoam from our landfills - that's 686 cubic yards collected in 13 months!

Accepted materials must be clean and dry. As well, all tape, plastic, stickers, cardboard and other contaminants attached to the foam must be removed and dropped off at the Armow landfill, 437 Sideroad 15. See list of acceptable items.

White, rigid, expanded EPS packaging will be accepted. This packaging is commonly from:

• Computers
• Electronics
• Appliances

EPS materials that are not accepted include:

• Take-out food containers
• Meat trays
• Coffee cups
• Disposable dishware
• Packing peanuts/popcorn
• Construction insulation, blue and pink
• Polyethylene and Polypropylene packaging
• Foam bags & wrapping
• Hot tub cover inserts
• Pool noodles
