There are many places you can research your family history in Bruce County.

Bruce County Genealogical Society

The Bruce County Genealogical Society offers their research talents for a fee. Details can be found on their website . If you prefer to do your own research, you are welcome to use the Society's library facilities located in the reading room at the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre in Southampton.

The reading room holdings include:

  • Bruce County censuses (1851 - 1911);
  • Bruce County cemetery transcriptions & church records;
  • Bruce County family histories;
  • Bruce County historical maps and atlases;
  • Bruce County land records;
  • Bruce County local, church and school histories;
  • Bruce County local directories;
  • Bruce County newspapers, some indexed/transcribed. Includes Chesley, Lucknow, Mildmay, Paisley, Port Elgin/ Southampton, Tara, Walkerton, Wiarton, etc - various years

  • Bruce County Women's Institute Tweedsmuir History Books Collection - local scrapbook style history books of many towns, villages and hamlets in Bruce County;

Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre

The Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre hosts research materials for the Bruce County Genealogical Society and the Bruce Grey Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society.

Historic photos of Kincardine including the Scougall Collection are available to view and purchase on their website .

If you are unable to visit the Museum, they do offer a research service for a fee.

The Society does not offer to conduct genealogical research.

Bruce County Public Library

The Kincardine Branch of the Bruce County Public Library hosts a collection of resource materials put together by local volunteers.

These resources include history books, family histories, Bruce County Census on microfilm, archived newspapers, cemetery and church records, and more.

They have free WIFI. There are computers available to use for a fee.

The Local History Room is available without an appointment during regular Library Hours.
