The Environmental Services Operator will be responsible for operating and maintaining the municipal water and wastewater treatment systems.
Location: Water Treatment Plant
Reporting To: Environmental Services Supervisor
Responsibilities:
1. Maintain, operate, and inspect water distribution and wastewater collection system assets
2. Perform water quality and system tests and take corrective actions
3. Perform operations and maintenance activities supporting the optimal operation of water and wastewater treatment plants
4. Read flow meters, gauges, and other recording instruments to measure water output and consumption levels, turbidity content and chlorine levels
5. Observe and record information related to pumps, valves, motors, and other water treatment equipment
6. Maintain data logs and perform laboratory analysis including MOE regulatory compliance sampling and submission
7. Perform lab work, analyze test results and instrument readings and make adjustments
8. Conduct hydrant checks and repair or replace hydrants; Maintain areas around hydrants in a clean and safe manner
9. Store, handle and mix chemicals and use in accordance with standard operating procedures or as dictated by water quality
10. Monitor, repair, and replace distribution pipelines and fixtures for a variety of Municipal systems
11. Troubleshoot and repair main sewage line breaks and install new lateral lines
12. Respond to emergency callouts and coordinate repairs to water and wastewater equipment and services
13. Respond to questions and complaints from the public by providing information and resolving problems
14. Conduct preventative maintenance and repair work on electrical pumps, valves, mixers and piping and checks valves and drains
15. Clean up spills of a variety of materials, including hazardous materials
16. Complete logbook entries and daily record sheets and prepare reports and work orders
17. Ensure all work is performed in compliance with relevant standards, legislation, and regulations
18. Comply with Municipality of Kincardine policies and procedures
19. Perform other tasks as assigned by management
Education & Experience Requirements:
• Post-secondary education in Environmental Studies or a related field of study
• Wastewater Treatment and Collection - Class 2
• Water Treatment and Distribution - Class 2
• Operators with OIT or Class 1 Licenses may be considered
• Valid Ontario Class G Driver’s License; Valid Ontario DZ License is considered an asset
Required Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:
• Previous experience in the electrical/mechanical fields
• Demonstrated communications skills - written, verbal and interpersonal
• Comfortable working independently and in a field environment
• Ability to work safely and take initiative
• Excellent organization and time management skills
• Ability to exercise good judgment in decision-making
• Demonstrated work history that highlights teamwork and a positive attitude

• Participation in the Operator on-call rotation
