Construction is underway.
A major infrastructure project is underway in downtown Kincardine to replace aging underground water and sewer pipes. The Downtown Dig will ensure our beloved main street can be enjoyed for decades to come.
We're still open for business
There are numerous ways to access downtown businesses and offices during construction, with additional public parking lots, enhanced rear entrance to some businesses, pedestrian walkways and signage, bike racks, etc.
The events you know and love may look a bit different this year or have to shift to a new location while work is being done, but they're still happening (as well as some Downtown Dig special events)!
Project Phases / Timelines
*Timelines are an estimate and may change.
Construction will start at the intersection of Harbour and Queen Street, as the sanitary and storm sewer lines connect and outlet into the Harbour Street pipes.
- Phase 1 - Harbour Street to Durham Market Square South, starting in late March, with completion by late July 2023.
- Phase 2 - Harbour Street to Lambton Street, starting late May with completion by late September 2023.
- Phase 3 - Lambton Street to Durham Street, starting in mid-July with completion by November 2023.
Each phase includes its own temporary watermain. Restoration of each phase will follow after underground work is completed.
The majority of construction is set for completion in November 2023.
Streetscaping (trees, planters, furniture, etc.) and topcoat of pavement is set to be completed in 2024.
Project Scope and Objectives
- Replacement of storm sewers, sanitary sewers, watermains, and services.
- Improved accessibility for sidewalks and building entrances.
