What You Need to Know

We're investing in downtown Kincardine's core infrastructure. The Downtown Dig is a $7+ million project that's critical to the future of our downtown.

The best way to stay informed on this project is to subscribe to our Downtown Dig e-newsletter. The e-newsletter is published weekly so you receive updates on project timelines, road closures, detours routes, planned service interruptions, etc.

Navigating Downtown

During construction, all businesses are open. We are working with the contractor to maintain access to stores and properties.

The project is going to impact the flow of traffic and parking downtown. Residents living downtown will have restricted vehicle access to their properties if they access their laneways off Queen Street. Residents living on detour routes can expect higher traffic volumes.

Special Events

Municipal staff are working with special event organizers to ensure that our beloved community events will still happen in 2023 - they might just look a little different. A calendar with a list of special events and locations can be found here.

Day to Day Downtown

This project will have an influence on everyday life in Downtown Kincardine.

Parking and Directions

Access to stores, services, restaurants, and residences will remain open during the Downtown Dig. We've installed additional signage to help you find alternate parking places. You can plan your trip in advance by visiting our Parking and Detour webpage.

Consider Active Transportation

We could all stand to be a little more active, right? Instead of bringing your vehicle downtown, why not use your bicycle or walk. If you do need to bring your vehicle to get to town, consider parking in one of the lots a bit further from your destination to get a few extra steps in your day.

Shopping, Dining, and Events

All businesses are open during the Downtown Dig. Please follow posted detour routes and parking information. We're also working with special events organizers to make sure beloved downtown events are still happening in 2023, they may just be in alternate locations or look a little different for this year. We'll update you with more information on this, soon.

Make sure to visit Lakeside Downtown Kincardine BIA and the Kincardine and District Chamber of Commerce. Both organizations are planning some special events and promotions that will help make the Downtown Dig memorable for all the right reasons!

Garbage and Recycling

During construction, all waste and recycling services will be maintained on your regular collection day schedule.

Please write your name/business and address on the outside of all bins so they can be returned correctly. The Contractor will ensure that they get collected and returned.

 Preparing for Construction

If your home is in the construction zone, services will be installed through the foundation walls (where possible) and connected to existing plumbing once inside the building. Locations for existing service connections were identified during pre-engineering work.

We do request that building owners and/or tenants:

  • remove or relocate any items stored against the foundation walls in basements
  • remove/relocate any planting beds, planters, benches, patio furniture, signs, fencing, etc. from the sidewalk areas

 Pre-Construction Building Condition Survey

OZA Inspections Limited has been retained to record the existing interior and exterior condition of buildings prior to construction beginning. If your building is within the construction zone, you should have received a letter with more details and contact information to arrange a time for inspection. This survey is not required; however, it is strongly recommended in the unlikely event that the building is damaged during construction.

Love Our Downtown!

We know that construction isn't pleasant, but we need to get that aging infrastructure replaced. We encourage everyone to have a positive attitude during this time.

You are ambassadors of this beautiful community and your attitude, positive or negative, has a tremendous impact on the experience both residents and visitors have.
