Reviewing the Comprehensive Zoning By-Law

KINCARDINE, ON – A review of the Comprehensive Zoning By-Law following the 2021 update of the Official Plan is underway. The Municipality of Kincardine is working with MHBC Planning for this project with two upcoming Open Houses a key part of the process.

“On Tuesday, September 27th, the Municipality of Kincardine will be holding two Open Houses for residents to come out and provide input on the Comprehensive Zoning Bylaw review,” says Manager of Development Services and Chief Building Official Dwayne McNab. “Zoning and the language within the Bylaw regarding uses is often subject to interpretation and the goal is to provide a progressive and concise document that suits the needs of a growing and inclusive community. This come and go format is a more casual way for people to learn more, ask questions, and give their input.”

The first of the two Open Houses is from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Whitney Crawford Centre in Tiverton. The second will follow from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Miller Insurance New Seniors Room at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine.

“The Zoning By-Law gives us direction on land use. It looks at things like property setbacks, building heights, and the four different land usages: residential, commercial, agricultural, and industrial. This review allows us to look at the changing needs of our community,” says McNab.

The current By-Law is 13 years old and has had 200 amendments since its last review. Review of all parts of the Zoning By-Law in detail allows for strategic alignment to the Official Plan, current standards, and best practices.

The August 2022 release of a preliminary report by MHBC is available on and information collected at the Open Houses will form a Discussion Paper set for completion in October.

The completion date for the Comprehensive Zoning By-Law Review process is tentatively June of 2023.
