Yesterday, Bruce Power announced an increase in output of 250 megawatts (MW) – enough to power 250,000 more homes. With more innovations and upgrades, the plant aims to become even more efficient and has an ambitious goal of a 7,000 MW site peak by 2030.
Bruce Power also announced yesterday that later this year they will harvest Cobalt-60, an isotope used to treat breast cancer and brain tumours and sterilize medical equipment. This news comes after last month’s announcement that Bruce Power has been approved to produce Lutetium-177, used to treat prostate cancer and neuroendocrine tumors.
“I want to extend my congratulations to Bruce Power on this tremendous achievement,” says Mayor Gerald Glover. “The Municipality of Kincardine is proud to host a company that is truly leading the way in clean energy and climate change solutions and, as if that weren’t enough, the fight against cancer! Kudos, Bruce Power!”
